The one-thousand-choir festival

The Alta Pusteria International Choir Festival is a non competitive event that takes place in Val Pusteria (South Tyrol, ITALY) every year during the last week of June for five days, Wednesday to Sunday. Since the first Festival in 1998, over 1000 outstanding choirs and about 55,000 singers from 44 countries of the five continents have performed in the nineteen editions.
The program of the Festival includes no less than sixty performances such as Real Concerts, Open Air Reviews and Meeting-Days, that will take place in the charming Val Pusteria, from Brunico to Sillian, just beyond the Austrian border.
The Festival offers a wide choice between indoor concerts in theatres, concert halls and churches of the valley’s main towns as well as outdoor performances on lake shores, in medieval castles and in all the Alpine huts of Alta Pusteria, in the heart of the Dolomites.

Experience lake of Dobbiaco

Lake Dobbiaco is a small alpine lake near the homonymous village in upper Val Pusteria. This lake originated from several rockfalls in antiquity and its inlet and outlet is the Rienza river. Round this nature jewel five bunkers were built, as Mussolini wanted to protect the access roads to Italy in 1939. These constructions were part of the Alpine wall, a protective barrier dating back to WWII.

Since 2000, there has also been a nature trail round Lake Dobbiaco (shore line: 4.5 km), which offers about two hours of pleasant walking. This path features 11 panels providing useful information about flora and fauna and even issues several challenges.

Moreover this lake is particularly popular with those who love bird watching, as several rare migrant birds stop in this area in spring and autumn. In summer, however, you can explore Lake Dobbiaco when doing a boat trip, whereas in winter it is frozen and perfectly suitable for ice skating and curling. Also the main cross-country ski trail of upper Val Pusteria surrounds the lake.
